About Mr. Clifton

DARRYL P. CLIFTON--Nov. 25, 1960-Aug. 3, 2012

Mr. Clifton’s time with us was always going to be limited.  From an early age, he underwent multiple heart surgeries; however, he showed his true heart by how he chose to use the time given to him.  Put simply, Mr. Clifton did his best to help other people at all times.

When he became the Scoutmaster of Troop 56, it had shrunk to three boys and was within months of losing its charter. Despite never participating in Scouting as a youth, he became a Scoutmaster and continued in the role for 25 years.

Besides his dozens of Eagle Scouts, Mr. Clifton empowered others to serve. He recruited, trained, and mentored dozens of Assistant Scoutmasters and leaders, many of whom have stayed on with the Troop for years after their children had aged out, including two Silver Beaver recipients. About a dozen of his former Scouts served in leadership roles at the Troop-, District-, and Council-levels.
